What Does God Require of us?

In 1 John 2 we understand that Jesus gave us a new commandment--to love one another. But it already says in the Old Testament, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Leviticus 19:18. How is loving one another a new commandment?

As with many of the other commandments, Jesus brought love up to a new level. The Jews were to love their fellow Jews, yes, but Jesus now commands us to love our enemies. In the Old Testament they were commanded to love others as themselves, true, BUT the word of God now says,

"By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren." 1 John 3:16.

The new standard for Christian love is to love others sacrificially! We are even told in Philippians 2:3 "Let each esteem others better than himself."

Who is the one that Christ told us to love in the parable of the good Samaritan? It was a man in great need. He was beaten and left for dead. With a count of over 57 million children dead, nearly one of every three children in America is in danger of being killed unceremoniously. Therefore can we define unborn children as the ones most in need of our help?

This is the core of our ministry. It is obedience to Christ's command to love, to lay down our lives for those who are most in need.
